Using Stock positions as collateral
Tradestone Markets allows individuals to reuse up to 70 % of their Stock investments as collateral for margin-based trading. For example, if a trader has Stocks with a market value of CAD 100,000, up to CAD 70,000 may be re-used as a collateral for trading Forex or CFDs. The re-use of collateral depends on the risk rating of the Stock.

Settlement
Stocks are settled in “street form” (ie registered in a nominee a/c name) and held with a leading Global Custody provider. Tradestone clients are not charged any depository or custody fees unless the account is inactive. One trade per quarter in any instrument is classed as an active account. Otherwise a small charge of 0.5/100 of 1% of the average quarterly value is charged per quarter.
Leverage
Physical Equities are not eligible for Margin. The Client has to pay the whole purchase proceeds for a given asset from their account balance. A customer can sell a holding, however if the client wants to short an equity the only way of doing this is through Contracts for difference (CFDs).
Being able to differentiate the two asset types is very important in the platform. In set up we suggest customers have a different workspace for physical equities and CFDs. There is a visual key in the top righthand corner of the Trade board Box. In the example below we have two Bombardier Trade Board Boxes, The CFD has a purple “CFD” icon and the a physical equity has a green “EQ” icon. While the trading characteristics are almost identical, you cannot short a physical equity, and your balance available for margin trading will be reduced by the full purchase price of the asset. The leverage effect of buying the Bombardier CFD will have significantly lower impact on Margin available to trade.

difference between CFD and Equity
Have you tried CFD trading?
For short-term and intraday stock traders, Tradestone Markets would also like to highlight Contracts for Difference or CFD trading. CFDs are derivatives that offer a number of important benefits to intraday investors including trading on live prices, margin trading to leverage investments and easy short selling.
Your equity portfolio can harness the power of CFDs. You can choose to trade long/short against your portfolio using Index or stock cfds, hedge currency exposure or trade the commodities that reflect global economic risk.
